Creating a Backup Plan

A backup plan defines what gets backed up, where backups are stored, how often they run, and how long they are kept. You need at least one backup plan applied to each device you want to protect.

Creating a new plan

  1. Log in to https://cyberprotect.bamboozle.me.
  2. Click Plans in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Create plan in the top right.
  4. Select Protection plan from the options.

Naming your plan

Give your plan a clear, descriptive name such as "Workstations - Daily Backup" or "Server - Weekly Full". This makes it easy to identify which plan applies to which devices.

Choosing what to back up

Under the Backup section, select what you want to protect:

OptionWhat it backs upBest for
Entire machineEverything on the device including OS, applications and dataFull disaster recovery
Disks and volumesSpecific drives or partitionsServers with multiple drives
Files and foldersSpecific directories or file typesDocuments and user data

For most users, Entire machine is the recommended option as it allows you to restore everything in the event of a hardware failure.

Choosing where to back up

Under Where to back up, select Bamboozle Cloud Storage. This stores your backups in Bamboozle's secure UAE-based infrastructure.

Your cloud storage quota is shown in the top right of the console. Contact [email protected] if you need to increase your quota.

Setting the backup schedule

Under Schedule, configure how often backups run:

  • Daily — recommended for most workstations and servers
  • Weekly — suitable for less critical data
  • Monthly — for archival purposes
  • Continuously — for critical systems requiring minimal data loss (uses more storage)

Set the time the backup runs. For servers, choose a time outside business hours such as 02:00 to minimize performance impact.

Backup scheme

The backup scheme controls how full and incremental backups are balanced:

  • Weekly full, daily incremental — a full backup every week with smaller daily incremental backups in between. Recommended for most use cases.
  • Always full — a complete backup every time. Uses more storage but is the simplest to restore from.
  • Always incremental — only backs up changes since the last backup. Uses least storage but takes longer to restore.

Setting retention rules

Retention rules define how long backups are kept before being automatically deleted to free up storage space.

Under Retention rules, configure:

  • By number of backups — keep the last X backups
  • By age — keep backups for X days, weeks, or months

A recommended starting configuration is:

  • Keep daily backups for 30 days
  • Keep weekly backups for 3 months
  • Keep monthly backups for 1 year

Enabling encryption

We strongly recommend encrypting your backups to protect sensitive data.

  1. Under Encryption, toggle Enable encryption to on.
  2. Enter a strong encryption password and confirm it.
  3. Store this password securely — Bamboozle cannot recover encrypted backups if the password is lost.

Applying the plan to devices

Once the plan is configured, click Apply and select the devices you want to protect with this plan.

You can apply one plan to multiple devices, or create separate plans for different groups of devices with different requirements.

Verifying the plan is active

After applying the plan, go to Devices and select a protected device. Under the Protection tab you should see your plan listed with a status of OK and the next scheduled backup time.
