Installing the Backup Agent

To back up a device, you need to install the Bamboozle Cyber Protect agent on it. The agent is a lightweight piece of software that runs in the background and manages backups according to your protection plan.

Which agent do I need?

Device typeAgent required
Windows PC or serverAgent for Windows
Linux serverAgent for Linux
MacAgent for Mac
VMware vSphereAgent for VMware
Microsoft Hyper-VAgent for Hyper-V
Microsoft 365 mailboxesAgent for Microsoft 365

For most users protecting Windows or Mac machines, you only need the standard agent for that operating system.

Downloading the agent

  1. Log in to https://cyberprotect.bamboozle.me.
  2. Click Devices in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Add device in the top right.
  4. Select the type of device you want to protect.
  5. Click Download agent and save the installer file.

tip

On macOS 13 and later, you may need to go to System Settings then Privacy and Security then Full Disk Access and manually enable the Cyber Protect agent.

Installing on Linux

Download the appropriate package for your Linux distribution from the console, then run the following commands in a terminal:

For Debian/Ubuntu:

sudo dpkg -i cyberprotect-agent-linux.deb
sudo /usr/lib/Acronis/BackupAndRecovery/setupAgent.sh

For Red Hat/CentOS/Rocky Linux:

sudo rpm -i cyberprotect-agent-linux.rpm
sudo /usr/lib/Acronis/BackupAndRecovery/setupAgent.sh

Follow the on-screen prompts to register the device with your Bamboozle Cyber Protect account.

Verifying the installation

After installation, return to the console and click Devices in the left sidebar. Your device should appear in the list with a status of OK or No plan if no protection plan has been applied yet.

If the device does not appear within a few minutes, check that your firewall allows outbound connections on port 443 to *.bamboozle.me.

  2. Click Details and check the Agent version field.
