Restoring an Entire Machine
If a device fails completely due to hardware failure, ransomware, or other disaster, you can restore the entire machine from a backup. This restores the operating system, applications, settings, and all data to the state they were in at the chosen recovery point.
Before you start
- You will need a replacement or repaired machine to restore to.
- For bare metal recovery (restoring to a machine with no operating system), you will need Bamboozle Cyber Protect bootable media.
- Ensure the target machine has sufficient disk space to accommodate the restored data.
Option 1: Restore to the same or similar machine (agent installed)
If the original machine still works but needs to be rolled back, or if you are restoring to a replacement machine with the agent already installed:
- Log in to https://cyberprotect.bamboozle.me.
- Click Devices and select the device.
- Click Recovery then select Entire machine or Disks/Volumes.
- Select the recovery point to restore from.
- Map the source disks to the target disks on the machine.
- Click Start recovery.

Restoring an entire machine will overwrite all existing data on the target disks. Make sure you have selected the correct target machine before proceeding.
The machine will restart automatically during the recovery process.
Option 2: Bare metal recovery using bootable media
Use this method when the machine cannot boot at all and has no operating system installed.
Creating bootable media
- On a working machine, log in to https://cyberprotect.bamboozle.me.
- Download the Cyber Protect Bootable Media Builder from the Downloads section.
- Run the builder and create bootable media on a USB drive (minimum 4GB).

Booting from the media
- Insert the USB drive into the machine you want to restore.
- Boot from the USB drive — you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
- The Cyber Protect recovery environment will load.

Connecting to your backup
- In the recovery environment, click Manage this machine locally or Recover.
- Click Add backup location and enter your Bamboozle Cyber Protect credentials.
- The console will connect to your cloud backup storage and display available backup archives.

Performing the recovery
- Select the backup archive for the machine you want to restore.
- Select the recovery point (date and time) to restore from.
- Select Entire machine or individual disks to restore.
- Map source disks to target disks.
- Click Recover now.

The recovery process will begin. Do not power off the machine during recovery. The time required depends on the size of the backup and your internet connection speed.
Monitoring recovery progress
Recovery progress is shown directly in the recovery environment. Once complete, the machine will restart and boot into the restored operating system.
You can also monitor the recovery from the console under Monitoring then Activities from another device.
Recovery time expectations
| Backup size | Estimated recovery time |
|---|---|
| Up to 50 GB | 1 to 2 hours |
| 50 to 200 GB | 2 to 5 hours |
| 200 GB to 1 TB | 5 to 12 hours |
| Over 1 TB | Contact Bamboozle Support for physical data shipping options |
Recovery times depend heavily on your internet connection speed. A faster connection significantly reduces recovery time.
