Restoring Files and Folders

If you have accidentally deleted a file, or need to recover a previous version of a document, you can restore individual files and folders from your backup without restoring the entire machine.

Restoring from the console

  1. Log in to https://cyberprotect.bamboozle.me.
  2. Click Devices in the left sidebar.
  3. Select the device whose files you want to restore.
  4. Click Recovery in the top menu.
  5. Select Files/Folders.

Selecting a recovery point

A recovery point is a snapshot of your data at a specific point in time. Each backup creates a new recovery point.

  1. A calendar view will show dates on which backups were taken — highlighted dates have available recovery points.
  2. Click a date to see the available recovery points for that day.
  3. Select the recovery point closest to the time before the file was deleted or changed.

Browsing and selecting files

After selecting a recovery point, a file browser will open showing the contents of the backup at that point in time.

  1. Browse the folder structure to find the files or folders you want to restore.
  2. Tick the checkbox next to each item you want to recover.
  3. Click Recover when you have made your selection.

Choosing where to restore

You have two options for where to restore the files:

Restore to the original location Files are restored to the same path they were backed up from. If a file with the same name already exists, you can choose to overwrite it or keep both versions.

Restore to a different location Browse to any folder on the device and restore the files there. Useful if you want to compare the restored version with the current file before replacing it.

Click Start recovery to begin the restore.

Monitoring restore progress

Go to Monitoring then Activities to track the restore progress. The activity will show as Running while in progress and Succeeded when complete.

Restoring from the web browser without an agent

If the device no longer exists or the agent is not installed, you can still download files directly from the web console:

  1. Go to Backup storage in the left sidebar.
  2. Find the backup archive for the device.
  3. Click Browse to open the file browser.
  4. Select the files you want and click Download.

info

Downloaded files are compressed into a ZIP archive. Extract them after downloading.

Restoring previous versions of a file

If you need a version of a file from a specific date rather than just recovering a deleted file:

  1. Follow the steps above to browse to the file in the backup.
  2. Instead of selecting the latest recovery point, choose an earlier date on the calendar.
  3. Select the file and restore it to a different location so you can compare it with the current version.
