Running a Backup
Once a protection plan is applied to a device, backups run automatically according to the schedule you configured. You can also run a backup manually at any time.
Running a manual backup
- Log in to https://cyberprotect.bamboozle.me.
- Click Devices in the left sidebar.
- Select the device you want to back up.
- Click Back up now in the top right.
- Select the protection plan to run if more than one is applied to the device.
- Click Start backup.

The backup will start immediately. You can monitor its progress in the Activities dashboard.
Monitoring backup progress
To check the status of a running or recently completed backup:
- Click Monitoring in the left sidebar.
- Click Activities.
- Find the backup activity in the list — it will show the device name, start time, and current status.

Status indicators:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Running | Backup is currently in progress |
| Succeeded | Backup completed successfully |
| Succeeded with warnings | Backup completed but some files were skipped |
| Failed | Backup did not complete — check the error message |
Understanding backup types
When a scheduled backup runs, the type of backup created depends on your backup scheme:
- Full backup — a complete copy of all selected data. Takes longer and uses more storage but is self-contained and fast to restore from.
- Incremental backup — only backs up data that has changed since the last backup of any type. Fastest to create and uses least storage.
- Differential backup — backs up data that has changed since the last full backup. A middle ground between full and incremental.
Most protection plans use incremental backups for daily runs and a full backup once a week.
Checking backup storage usage
To see how much cloud storage your backups are using:
- Click Backup storage in the left sidebar.
- You will see a breakdown of storage used per device and per backup archive.

What to do if a backup fails
If a backup shows a Failed status:
- Click on the failed activity to see the error details.
- Common causes include:
- The device was offline when the backup was scheduled to run
- Insufficient cloud storage quota
- A file was locked by another application and could not be read
- Most issues resolve themselves on the next scheduled run. If the problem persists, contact Bamboozle Support with the error message.

If a device is frequently offline during the scheduled backup window, change the schedule to a time when the device is reliably powered on and connected to the internet.
